Are you a runner, a golf enthusiast, a dog walker, a mountain climber, a waitress or find yourself on your feet all day because of your job,? If you live an active lifestyle, the likelihood of calluses on your feet is high. Calluses are tough areas of skin that are formed friction and pressure. Repeatedly performing the same function will continue to place resistance on the same contact points in your shoes from your feet. And while most calluses are not painful but merely unsightly bumps; some calluses can cause discomfort or pain.

If you've ever had a callus on your foot, you know how it feels. So what can you do to prevent calluses from forming? And if you already have calluses, what can you do to get rid of calluses that are making your life uncomfortable? And finally, what steps can you take to prevent calluses from coming back?

Podiatrist and foot care specialists do not recommend cutting the calluses off with a razor or sharp instrument. The risk of infection would be high and the reduction would only be a temporary solution. Filing or sanding the calluses is better but that too is just a temporary solution.

Footwear that allows even room; especially in the toe box, is important. Properly aligning your feet to insure stability and balance will greatly decrease friction caused by rubbing points in your shoes. Orthotics are recommended to help correctly align your feet and ankles. Insuring proper foot arch function can be obtained by using Orthotic Arch Support Insoles.

Several brands of good quality Orthotic Insoles are available at a reasonable price. Look for reputation of the manufacturer, type and length of guarantee offered, variety of foot care products offered to insure you find the exact solution for your exact problem, if the Orthotics are doctor recommended and durability.

Spenco Medical has been manufacturing foot care products for over 43 years. Their Insoles are approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association and carry a one year unconditional guarantee. Also, Spenco has the largest selection of styles and models to solve almost every foot problem.

The Spenco Orthotic Arch Support Insoles are clinically designed and doctor recommended. By providing firm arch support with a top layer of cushioning and a friction resistant, anti-microbial top cloth, the Spenco Orthotic Arch Support Insoles help to correctly align the feet to insure balance and stability for the feet, ankles, knees, hips and back.

It's time to avoid the creams, the gels, the pills and all other medication for treatment of calluses and start off your new foot care routine the right way. For more information on Spenco Orthotic Insoles and other fine quality foot care products, visit The Insole Store today!

I thought callouses were just dead skin that accumulated. Am I wrong?

No, you are correct. In most cases, calluses are merely something unattractive but for some, they are painful and can lead to more serious conditions.
